Mission Command Software Suite (MCSS)

Control a variety of platform displays or computers from a single computer.

The Leonardo DRS Mission Command Software Suite (MCSS) provides a single interface that enables operators to control sensors, communications equipment, mission applications, navigational devices and platform vetronics from existing platform displays and computers, or from a suite of available Leonardo DRS products. All of the voice, video and data from these platform devices can be connected across the network with adjacent platforms, remote command posts, higher headquarters and, when desired, with partners. Specifically, the MCSS consolidates:

  • Radio Management
  • Video Distribution, Storage & Geo-Tagging
  • Routing and Switching
  • Power Management
  • Peripheral Device Management
  • Application Management
  • Voice Call Management
  • Location Service Distribution (GPS and INS)

The MCSS uses an open architecture, COTS approach while adhering to industry and government standards such as the US Navy Open Architecture Computing Environment (OACE), the US Army Vehicular Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability (VICTORY), and the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Mobile Distributed C4ISR Architecture (MDCA). The MCSS core applications are operationally deployed, providing Warfighters with a cost effective means of achieving integrated C4ISR management.

Leonardo DRS is a global leader in the design and manufacture of ultra-rugged, commercial-off-the-shelf computers, displays & embedded workstations, handheld devices, tablet computers, and integrated network products. Delivery and fielding of the MCSS capability enables Leonardo DRS as a platform integrator with solutions that will help first responders accomplish their fleet modernization objectives.

The Leonardo DRS MCSS is fully modular. The features listed above and below can be purchased individually, collectively in sets, or comprehensively.

CORE SOFTWARE – The core software supports full-featured layer 3 routing and switching including QoS as well as highly-reliable video distribution over high-loss, low-bandwidth tactical networks. The core software also manages multiple virtual machines enabling support for a wide range of applications and services.

C4 MANAGER – The C4 Manager is the software user interface for remote radio management, video management, and Mission Command system management. Radio management includes changing frequencies, channels, groups, and other parameters accessible from radio faceplates. Video management includes live viewing of networked video feeds and enables screenshots to be taken and marked up with a graphics tool for network distribution or for post mission analysis. Fleet Communication Management System includes remotely controlling systems through a software interface without a separate remote control unit.

VOICE CALL MANAGER – The Voice Call Manager is the user interface for dynamically managing local and remote voice assets and creating talk groups that enable voice interoperability between different radio and voice devices. In addition, Voice Call Manager enables and disables talk groups, adds and removes voice devices to and from talk groups, and enables operators to participate in and monitor talk groups.

OPERATOR’S CONSOLE – The Operator’s Console provides status and diagnostics to support troubleshooting and real-time system monitoring including: service status, routing protocol adjacency information, route table entry, loading configuration files generated by the Network Planner, and updating software.

FORCE INSIGHT – Force InSight provides highly-reliable situational awareness including friendly force tracking, waypoint management, mapping with point-of-interest sharing, image distribution, and chat. Fleet InSight runs on Windows, Linux, and Android to support almost any platform.

NETWORK PLANNER – The Network Planner is used to generate network plans and configuration files for all DDUx-enabled nodes within the network. The Network Planner is primarily used by network administrators.
